Job Description

The Head – Trade-Based Money Laundering (TBML) Advisory will lead the bank’s efforts in identifying, assessing, and mitigating TBML risks within trade finance operations. The role is responsible for providing expert advisory, ensuring compliance with SBP regulations and international standards, and strengthening internal controls to prevent financial crime risks associated with trade transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the TBML risk management framework across trade finance and related business units.
  • Provide expert advisory support on TBML risks in trade transactions including imports, exports, letters of credit, and open account trade.
  • Ensure compliance with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) regulations, AML/CFT guidelines, and international standards (FATF, Basel).
  • Review and assess trade transactions for red flags, discrepancies, and unusual patterns indicative of TBML.
  • Develop and implement TBML policies, procedures, and controls in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, gap analysis, and control reviews related to trade-based financial crime.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (Trade, Compliance, Risk, Operations) to ensure effective risk mitigation.
  • Provide guidance and support during regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor and report TBML risk exposures to senior management and compliance committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an HEC-recognized university.
  • Preferably MBA / M.Com in Finance, Banking, or related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or equivalent will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in banking / financial institutions, preferably in Compliance, AML, Trade Finance, or Financial Crime Risk.
  • Strong hands-on experience in TBML, AML investigations, or trade finance operations.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of SBP regulations and international AML/CFT frameworks.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of trade finance products and processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of TBML typologies, red flags, and risk indicators.
  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills.
